On July 4, 2011 a major event went down in the United States. And no I’m not referring to Independence Day celebrations, although that somehow seems apropo. I am rather referencing the secret interview between ATF Director Ken Melson, his personal attorney, and members of Congress including Rep. Darrell Issa and Sen. Charles Grassley. The reason I refer to this meeting being ‘secret’ is because this interview had been previously scheduled for July 13, 2011 in the presence of ATF and DOJ counsel.
Melson appears to have had a different opinion, and without the knowledge of the ATF or the DOJ counsel, moved the meeting forward – hence the secrecy. On July 5, 2011 Rep. Issa and Sen. Grassley released a letter written to Attorney General Eric Holder which can be seen here.
If it were not for my penchant to gain my news information from a variety of sources other than traditional news outlets (I’ll call them these outlets the ‘absent journalists’), I would never have known about this development in Project Fast and Furious, aka Project Gunrunner. Its actually a very sad state of affairs when I happen across foreign sources of news such as The Voice of Russia whereupon I find the following:
While the FBI tried to turn Kenneth Melson, Acting head of the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, into a scapegoat, he managed to prove that he had not known about the operation until its details became public. Moreover, during a closed meeting with members of Congress, Mr. Melson stated that the Department of Justice had tried to prevent him from cooperating with the inquiry.
The two senators, leading a congressional inquiry – Charles Grassley and Darrell Issa – sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, providing details of the meeting. According to the letter, Mr. Melson was “candid in admitting mistakes that his agency made and described various ways in which, he says, he tried to remedy the problems”. The letter also states that Mr. Melson “appears to have been effectively muzzled while the DOJ sent over false denials and buried its head in the sand,” said the inquiry.
This seems rather serious from an American national security view point doesn’t it? Surely the American media is covering this story with the same zeal as they covered the Nixon affair decades ago, but alas nary a peep. I’ve checked CNN where the headlines of the day include, “Mexican National Executed in Texas”, or “The Newspaper that Died in Shame” (now there’s a fascinating topic!), or “Judge: 6 More Days in Jail for Anthony”. Then there’s MSNBC where I find, “”Harry Potter Fans Flock to London for Final Chapter”, and “Nanny Lawsuit Resumes Against Casey Anthony”. Then on over to CBS and its “Yellowstone Won’t Try to Capture Killer Grizzly”, “Casey Anthony to be Released Wednesday”, and “Elizabeth Smart Lands TV News Job”. Not to be outdone over at ABC they report, “PTA Moms Accused of Running Ponzi Scheme”, “Kate Middleton’s Favorite Jeans”, and again, “Casey Anthony to be Released Next Week”. Obviously Casey Anthony is a very serious threat to our national security since she is mentioned on every major media outlet all the while ignoring the obstruction of justice on full throttle within the Obama Administration!
Listen up absent journalists, I would be embarrassed if I were you, agenda or no agenda. A kindergartner could report the news better, which is why I no longer give you the time of day, and neither should anyone else. I can ignore you, just as you are ignoring this story, and get more information elsewhere with much more truth and accuracy for that matter than anything you shills can put out these days.
Pajamas Media has 2 stories up: “Gunwalker: The ATF’s Kenneth Melson Blows the Whistle on the Justice Department and “Email Confirms ‘Gunwalker’ Known Throughout Justice Department“.
Red State has the following: “Fast and Furious Update: Ken Melson’s Secret Testimony”, and if you do a google search you can find many other stories abound on blogs and various conservative news outlets. You just won’t find any details on any left wing blogs or news sites. In fact the best I could do on ABC was one blog: “ATF Chief Testifies Before Congress in Secret Over Controversial Gun Program”, anything else is crickets. The Pajamas Media story linked above contains an absolutely dynamite quote:
Predictably, most mainstream media organizations covering Gunwalker aren’t willing to acknowledge the depth, breadth, or severity of the scandal or its illegality. Judged by the numbers of crimes committed, lives lost, and executive branch officials involved, Gunwalker has the potential to surpass both Watergate and Iran-Contra as one of the worst scandals in American political history just based upon what little we publicly know of the operation and its equally abortive and incompetent cover-up.
Let us lay this out as clearly and unambiguously as possible, so there can be no mistake. Senior law enforcement officers within the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security, including government appointees, potentially committed felonies that led to the deaths of dozens, if not hundreds of Mexican police, soldiers, and civilians, and the murders of least two American federal agents. This program was put in place in order to pursue a phantom gun-smuggling network that only seemed to exist in the the minds of those pushing a political agenda of gun control championed exclusively by the left wing of the Democratic Party, Attorney General Eric Holder himself, and the president of the United States, Barack Obama.
But alas….our absent journalists within the American media find Harry Potter fans and Kate Middleton’s jeans to be more newsworthy than a story of corruption that outshines Watergate and Iran-Contra combined. But hang onto your hat, it gets even better. Not only has this story been ignored and buried by the media, but it doesn’t even begin to grasp how deep the cesspool of our government has become. Its not just the Obama Administration or the Democrat Party who are complicit in this affair, but likely many within the GOP as well. If one reads the text of H.R. 1 (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009), the only time within this bill the words “gun” or “firearm” appears is in the section under the Department of Justice, State and Local Law Enforcement Assistance which allocates $10,000,000 to the ATF for Project Gunrunner.
For an additional amount for ‘State and Local Law Enforcement Assistance’, $40,000,000, for competitive grants to provide assistance and equipment to local law enforcement along the Southern border and in High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas to combat criminal narcotics activity stemming from the Southern border, of which $10,000,000 shall be transferred to ‘Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Salaries and Expenses’ for the ATF Project Gunrunner.
Our tax dollars at work folks. This bill specifically designated that 10,000,000 of your tax dollars be given to the ATF. So where did the money go? Did it hire new agents? If so, who were they and where are they? Where is the evidence new agents were hired? What else could it have been used for? More important, WHO was it given to? And perhaps, most importantly, since members of the House and Senate voted on and passed this bill, they obviously knew what Project Gunrunner was, and to whom it was going to. Unless of course, they voted once again having not actually read the bill. After all, according to our overlords in D.C. we have to pass the bill first before we can find out what’s in it!
The next few weeks will be interesting as the story continues to gain steam, at least on the blog front. Whether or not it gains steam with the questionable journalistic talents of our absent press remains to be seen. But ask yourself this question: Had Project Fast & Furious happened under the Administration of George W. Bush – would our absent journalists have ignored that story or ran it 24/7? And if you answered that question with ten-four to the 24/7, isn’t it racist to ignore the obvious obstruction of justice within the succeeding President’s administration simply because his skin color might be a shade darker than the other guy’s? Is Obama somehow inferior because of his race that he somehow can’t handle the criticism that George W. Bush would have and did receive? Isn’t that the real racism here? I submit that it is, so get off your lazy bums and start investigating this story. You never know, you might have an epiphany someday.
